What happens when Brazil's largest network of Artificial Intelligence researchers is given funding and the freedom to pursue its own questions? The answer is starting to take shape. This week, at the Kunumi COLABS meeting here in the South of Brazil, I had the honor of presenting, alongside my colleague Professor Rodrigo C. Barros, the first results of our Low Resource ML Colab at PUCRS.
In a short time, we already have a lot to celebrate: a full paper accepted at ICLR 2026 with our Bayesian Attention Mechanism, six papers accepted at BRACIS 2026 (one of them a Best Paper candidate), and two team members recognized as Distinguished Fellows at PUCRS's Undergraduate Research Fair.
None of this would be possible without Kunumi's trust and funding. Kunumi bets on science made in Brazil, with the freedom to investigate hard questions: how to adapt, align, and extend the context of LLMs under scarce computational resources, and how to make Brazil a protagonist in the development of AI.
My thanks to Kunumi, to my colleagues across the Colabs, and above all to the students and researchers in our group, who make this research happen every day.
